To further Ruth's lifelong and steadfast belief in the power of arts education, two scholarships have been established in her honor.

Alverno College

Building on Ruth DeYoung Kohler II’s longtime personal support of the Milwaukee liberal arts women’s college, the Foundation launched the Ruth Arts Scholarship, the only full-tuition arts scholarship at the school. Scholarships will be awarded by faculty recommendation for senior level students majoring in studio art, art therapy, art education or creative arts in practice. Preference will be given to students from underrepresented communities who have demonstrated financial need and are the first in their family to go to college.

2023 Ruth Arts Excellence Scholar: Lilliana Robinette

The Alverno Arts Department selected Lillianna (they/them) as the first recipient of the Ruth Arts scholarship. Lilli is an Art Education major who aspires to become a high school teacher. In response to receiving the scholarship, they share, “It means everything to me to receive this scholarship because I will be allowed to graduate debt free. Knowing I would go into debt attending college has always made me second guess my decision, but I kept pursuing my dream of being an art teacher and the first in my family to graduate college. This scholarship not only means the world to me, but also my family. They are all rooting for me and wish to see me graduate.”

Smith College

To honor Ruth DeYoung Kohler II’s alma mater, a Ruth Arts scholarship has been established to support students majoring in studio art and art history.
